Interesting. I'm a reformed globalist seeking redemption for having voted for the EU at every step of the way. God help me I've even voted Green.

My excuse is that growing up in the 70s in Ireland, Irish politics was pretty gombeenish. The EU had to be better. Turns out I was wrong.

I'm also a griptmedia supporter because it offers a window on Irish politics. A window only.

What I have discovered is that there are a class of Irish political nerds for whom the game is all there is. Griptmedia have no position on the government response to COVID because I suspect O'Rourke was a saucepan banger like so many others.

For these people the game of politics is the lens through which they see the world. For him ethno nationalism is of no significance until they have a party that can command a certain number of votes. Even the 60%who don't vote are irrelevant. It's only the voters playing the game that matter to him.

Seeing him in that context and understanding his limited frame of reference I can tolerate his bias. He offers the only alternative, limited as it is, to the state propaganda machine.

Contextualising this discussion the way you did is very helpful. Ireland isn't America. The Irish diaspora is a powerful demographic. Of course, Israel has millions of Christian Zionists in their corner. But your point is well taken.
